The Lowcountry The Lowcountry sits at the very tip of the Aethan peninsula, a place known for its lawlessness and so, its danger. This area was once known as Überrest, and bits of that peaceful farming community remain in the form of broken streets and old, ill cared-for buildings. It is sometimes referred to by such names as 'The Tavern District', for there are many, many of these establishments erected throughout the area. Given the unruliness of those who pass through, and take residence within, the Lowcountry, they are regularly destroyed--by arson, magic, or brute force--and hastily reconstructed. Long stretches of wildlands stretch through with little logic; forests, plains and bodies of water may interrupt what seemed, at first, to be a roadway, or a residential community. While much of the Lowcounty is, or appears to be, impovershed, it is by no means the entire picture. It is not so much a poor 'community' as it is an anarchic one; wealth belongs to those powerful enough to hold on to it, and the architecture reflects as much. What remains of the former farming town bears resemblance to Tudorbethan architecture, however, and the skeletal influence is often seen even in newer buildings. |
